Ukraine Is Highly Rated by UN's Human Development Index

A couple of days ago, the United Nations released their Human Development Report 2016. This report is released annually as a part of the United Nations Development Program. The mentioned report was presented to the public on March 21 in Stockholm, Sweden . Market Leader reports that the UN included Ukraine in the list of the countries with a high level of human development.

According to the report, Norway, Australia, Switzerland, Germany and Denmark can boast the highest level of human development in the entire world. The USA comes 10th, Russia is number 49, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Georgia, and Azerbaijan are number 52, 56, 70, and 78 respectively. Ukraine and Armenia share the 84th rank in the UN’s HDI.

As for the key factors taken into account when considering the index rank of a certain country, the list includes life expectancy, education, social security, healthcare, environmental protection, criminality, degree of public involvement in the country’s political life, GDP per capita and so much more.

The report says that during the period of 1990 through 2015, the average level of human development in various parts of the world improved considerably. However, over 30% of the world population is living behind the poverty line. Also, despite the improvement, in each and every country around the globe, there are vulnerable social classes.

Several countries managed to improve their ranks over the reporting period. For instance, Ukraine used to be number 88, now it’s 84, which testifies to the fact that despite all the misfortunes and challenges the country has been facing so far, they keep on moving slowly but surely to a better society with higher living standards.
